A couple of days ago, forum member Achim ('Gufi') posted a couple of wrist shots in our WRUW thread and another in a WRUW thread on SCWF of a rather nice, almost mint example of a 7A38-7070 which he'd recently acquired (possibly in a 'package deal' along with a 7A28-7040 in similar almost mint condition).

He's also written about them in a separate thread on SCWF and posted the same few photos in various threads on UhrForum.de.

I was hoping Achim might have written something (in a little more detail) about the 7A38-7070 here, in our forum's model specific thread, but he hasn't as yet, so let me give him a little nudge. :P

From what I understand from the various threads on UhrForum.de, although reading between the lines in German isn't my strong suit, I suspect Carlo ('Ketap') may have been involved in the deal. I also have an idea which 7A38-7070 this might be (if I'm correct, it's featured earlier in this thread). But perhaps you'd like to enlighten us, Achim ? ;)

Sure I can give a bit more information about these two new arrivals. No, Carlo was not really involved in this deal. He just took my "old" 7A38-7070 as a "daily beater".

Both 7A28-7040 and the 7A38-7070 I  received from Uhrforum.de member "Alex89". The 7A28 is not really mint, it has some small marks on the insert.  Alex found it 2-3 years ago on a flea market. The 7A38 indeed is near mint . If my memory serves me well, Alex got it back then from a retired watchmaker. So these two examples have never been available on ebay or forum marketplaces and should be new to you. Serial number of the 7A38-7070 is 466476.

Just two more pics. Right now the weather and lighting conditions are not really good.

Thanks for filling in the missing details, Achim. As you gathered, I was curious. ;)

PS - Please accept my belated apologies - I'd completely missed spotting that you'd already posted about them in the 'Newest Incoming 7Axx' thread:roll:

This average condition 7A38-7070 was listed this morning by a German eBay seller, with a Buy-it-Now price of 350 Euros (or best offer), which not long after I'd taken my screen print, he reduced to 320 Euros. Study the photos carefully. There's quite a lot of wear in the bracelet hinge pins. Notice also how the knurled edges of the bezel have polished up (presumably through rubbing wear). Because of the disparity in its (almost pristine) condition, I therefore strongly suspect that the bezel insert is a Yobokies repro' item - although the seller hasn't declared that in his description. Just my humble opinion, of course. ;)

Well that didn't last long.  The above 7A38-7070 sold earlier this evening, an hour or so after my last post, for the reduced Buy-it-Now price of 320 Euros.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/142655666419

The actual selling price isn't shown in the eBay Purchase History - for some reason, it only records the earlier offers declined by the seller, which mostly ranged from 295 to 300 Euros.

Newly picked up this weekend. Yes it needs work but for the price I paid it's a nice peice.

I have already spoken to Simon who will assist when he has time as the pshers need work and ideally i would like to replace the crystal. I see a lot of chat on here about this subject, looks liek I need to wait for one to come up or for a decent correct repro unit to be made/available.

Clearly it needs a correct bracelet, I will put that on teh rocking horse poop list!

Cheers

Patrick

I have to confess; I bought the German 7A38-7070 off eBay Sunday evening, so probably a bit of trigger-happiness to get hold of my first 7A38.

I must admit, I also noticed the polished/shiny bezel and clean/aftermarket insert, but missed the worn out bracelet hinge pins.. Eish! :/

Still searching for a SAAF 7A28/38 though.

Perhaps I should be a little more circumspect in my critiques of condition and pricing, just in case another new forum member buys a watch posted in one of these threads. Nah. What the heck, I'm just going to carry on telling how I see it. :P

This next 7A38-7070 in average worn condition, fitted with a hitherto unidentified non-original replacement bracelet, was listed this afternoon by a UK eBay seller with an over-optimistic 'pie-in-the-sky' Buy-it-Now price of £350 (or best offer). By the time I'd got round to writing up this post, he'd already reduced the Buy-it-Now price to £300.

Thanks. :) Even if it's not always quite up to date as it should be, eh Henre ?

I just realized I hadn't posted a result for that 7A38-7070, fitted with an unidentified non-original replacement bracelet, listed by UK eBay seller 334colin, which ended on the evening of 17th January.

Yesterday evening, another well-worn example of a 7A38-7070, fitted with an unidentified generic replacement bracelet was listed by a Serbian eBay seller, as a 7-day auction, with a wishful opening bid price of $280.

Here's another instance of Déjà Vu - a watch that has previously featured in this thread (on the previous page), back at the end of December last year. Indeed, I remember it well, because I nearly bought it myself, but then changed my mind.

It's not quite what the US eBay seller has listed it as - a 7A38-7070, but the ZFM variant, a 7A38-7075, fitted with a non-original bracelet. I suspect he may have done that deliberately, in an effort to garner more interest, but then he's uploaded FOUR photos of the case-back, showing it's actually stamped 7A38-7075, which is certain to confuse or deter some potential buyers.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282835738749

For sale is a pre-owned Seiko 7A38-7070 chronograph watch. This is a catch and release for me: I purchased it in December 2017 for $350 plus $50 shipping, and never wore it. Hence, I'm listing it inbetween at $375 shipped.

I purchased the watch from a Brazilian seller and cannot speak to it's service history, but I tested all of the functions and everything works as it should (i.e., timekeeping appears accurate, all pushers work without issue). The watch is in good physical condition as evidenced by the pictures. The watch is being sold as is.

For more about this line of watches, see:

I will only ship within the continental US. Shipping is included. I will ship via USPS Priority Mail or a USPS service that is generally comparable in terms of speed.

I note the US re-seller has since revised his listing title and description to reflect the actual model offered for sale - a 7A38-7075, rather than a 7A38-7070. He also removed 3 of the 4 photos of the case-back.

This average worn condition 7A38-7070, fitted with a cheap leather strap in place of the original bracelet was listed in the early hours of this morning, by a UK eBay seller, with a rather optimistic Buy-it-Now price of £235 (or option to make offer). Note the slightly discoloured lume on the hands and hour batons. I strongly suspect that the bezel insert fitted is not original, but a Yobokies repro' item. For one thing the lume pip is very white, plus its almost pristine condition isn't in keeping with the rest of the watch - viz. the myriad scratches around the bezel lip.

Here we have my 7a38-7070 in perfect working order and good condition. Everything resets as it should and keeps perfect time and day/date, no original strap but on a nice black leather but would look excellent on a black and white NATO any questions please ask, please pay within 24 hours after buying, thanks for looking.

When the 7-day auction for that well-worn 7A38-7070 fitted with an unidentified generic replacement bracelet, ended two days ago with no bids placed, the Serbian eBay seller re-listed it as a Buy-it-Now, for the same asking price of $280 as the previous auction's opening bid. Somebody bought it this morning.

The ZFM 7A38-7075 fitted with a non-original Seiko replacement bracelet, offered by a US eBay (re)seller, who has since joined this forum (using the same user ID ck2k01), sold for a second time this morning for the $375 Buy-it-Now price.

This 7A38-7070 in average worn condition, was listed earlier this evening by a German eBay seller as a 7-day auction, with an opening bid price of 1 Euro. The invoice supplied with it (for 60 Euros) is for replacement of seals by the recently opened Seiko boutique in Hamburg. Couple of points to note: the white Seiko presentation box it comes in is not 'period', but something much later. Also, it's not difficult to spot the amount of wear present in the bracelet hinge pins, either. :/

The 10-day listing by UK eBay seller 334colin for a 7A38-7070 in average worn condition, fitted with a cheap leather strap in place of the original bracelet, ended in the early hours of this morning - unsold.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282835905605

Like a couple of his other recently ended listings for 7A38's, this one also shows as having been re-listed, but again if you click on the link in the orange bar, you're met with this error message:

I'm not sure what may have happened. There was a fair amount of interest in this watch (the listing had 40 plus watchers) - as revealed by the eBay Offer History:

However, I'd suspect that the (declined) offer for £210 shown above was more likely to have been a counter-offer by the seller (declined by the potential buyer) and that the best offer he actually received was for £190. I may be wrong. :P

Mystery solved - the re-listing (same item # as was in the link) appeared about an hour ago - but now as a 5-day auction listing, with an opening bid price of £185. Presumably, after creating it, the seller suspended the re-listing so it would finish at a more sensible time, rather than the middle of the night.
