This NOS with tags 7A38-6010 was listed on eBay earlier this afternoon by a Spanish seller, with an asking price of 490 Euros.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182103433866

Athough clearly a very nice, genuinely NOS example, I couldn't help thinking that the seller had pitched it too high with a Buy-it-Now asking price of 490 Euros. After a day or so, he reduced it to 450 Euros.

It still took a couple more days before it found a buyer. Sold in the early hours of this morning for the reduced price of 450 Euros.

Meanwhile at the other end of the price / condition spectrum, a US eBay seller listed an average condition worn 7A38-6010, with the usual loss of black chrome plating - as a non-runner, in a job lot with a couple of typically fugly 1990 era 7T32's.

Up for Auction is a variety of 3 Men's Vintage Seiko Chronograph Watches being sold as is and pictured for Service/repair/parts. The watches are not running, they were tested and nothing happened, the watches appear to be in good cosmetic condition, the black one has a very small band and are being sold as pictured.

The above eBay auction for a 7A38-6010 included in a 'spares or repair' job lot with two 7T32's ended in the early hours of this morning, selling for $122.50 (approx. £83.50) after 16 bids.

I just spotted this vaguely titled eBay listing for a 7A38-6010 by an Israeli seller, with no mention of the model number in the description either. Best I can tell from the poor camera phone photos, the watch head appears to be in reasonable condition, apart from the hideous slipped tool scratches inflicted on the case-back. According to the seller the horrible non-original (metal reinforced rubber ?) strap fitted is also a little short.

Well, despite my giving it a plug, that poorly titled Israeli eBay listing for a 7A38-6010, fitted with a horrible replacement strap, didn't attract too much attention. The auction ended yesterday lunchtime, with it selling for a mere $67 (approx. £51.81) after 11 bids.

The winner was once again the 'mystery bidder' n***e (1704) who typically sniped it in the closing seconds. See this thread.

This 7A38-6010 in average worn condition (nothing like 'perfetto' as far as its bracelet's coating wear is concerned) was listed for 30 days, mid-week by an Italian eBay seller*, with a slightly optimistic (by Italian standards) Buy-it-Now price of 249 Euros.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252529904685

Seiko Cronografo da collezione il super collaudato 7a38 ormai fuori produzione da anni e ormai quasi introvabile nella versione tutta Black

Cassa in acciaio verniciato nero, bracciale originale marcato con segni d'uso

Funzionante in tutto , vetro in buone condizioni. Pila nuova

Le lancette crono secondi in movimento pulito e uniforme

Un pezzo da non lasciarselo scappare, tutto originale.

It sold, rather quicker than I'd anticipated, the following day - supposedly (according to eBay) for the full 249 Euros asking price.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252529904685

However, a quick check using Goofbid's eBay Best Offer History tool shows it actually sold for a slightly reduced 199 Euros.

*Incidentally, this Italian eBay seller guig_luc appears to use multiple eBay ID's. It was the style of his photos (nearly always taken against a brick wall background), wedding ring and affinity for polished stone bracelets that gave him away.

He's also critelli.andrea (presumably his name is Andrea Critelli) and at least one other.

This average worn condition 7A38-6010 fitted with a leather strap in place of the original bracelet was listed on eBay earlier this afternoon by a German seller. At the risk of sounding like an old worn-out record, it's typically well over-priced for the condition.

Just to prove me wrong, the above speculatively over-priced 7A38-6010 sold rather quicker than expected - early this morning.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331977650550

Not, however, as eBay would have you believe, for the German seller's 'pie-in-the-sky' 275 Euros Buy-it-Now asking price ....

But according to Goofbid's eBay Best Offer History tool for a rather more down-to-earth 175 Euros. Still too much IMHO. :P

A US eBay seller, who's presumably read this thread, listed an average well-worn example of a 7A38-6010 midweek. Despite the fact that he's given me (or the forum) a 'shout-out' in his description, I'll tell it like I see it. With the opening bid price set @ $250, I'd say it's well over-priced, particularly when you add on eBay's GSP program charges. Incidentally, since I took my screen print of the listing, the seller has added a few more photos (to the original 3 he'd uploaded). A couple of them show considerable wear of the black chrome plating on the bracelet. Sorry, Jim.

No great surprise - the above US eBay auction for a 7A38-6010 failed to attract any bids and presumably went unsold. At the time of writing, it hasn't been re-listed.

Meanwhile, here's another 7A38-6010 in a worse worn condition, that appeared listed on eBay in the States yesterday lunchtime. This one initially had me slightly confused on a couple of counts. In the seller's primary image, the bezel insert appears to be dark blue, which made me think it might have been replaced with one from a 7A38-6000. But No; checking the other photos it's definitely black - just a trick of the light. The other thing is the eBay item location stated as: Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, United States - which according to the description clearly isn't where it's at.

vintage seiko chronograph

worned hard see fotos, scarhes on glass

model 7a38-6010 black coated

day is in arabic and english

all functions are working

maybe used in military

sell it as is, watch is in europe

no reserve no refund or partial refund

will send it worldwide in registered mail 10-15 working days

From the seller's less than perfect English and studying the maps used as background to his photos, I'd suspect both he and the watch are actually in Slovenia or Boznia and Herzegovia.

The eBay auction for that well-worn 7A38-6010 by the presumably Slavic / US based eBay seller ended about 10 minutes ago, selling for $102.50 (approx. £83) after 17 bids. The auction was won by the 'mystery' snipe bidder n***e (1757), who, as I've pointed out a number of occasions before, seems to be building a large collection of the tattiest examples of every 7Axx model he can find.

US eBay seller jchambers64 (a.k.a. 'Jim') re-listed his 7A38-6010 earlier this afternoon - this time not as a Buy-it-now, but as an auction, with an opening bid price of $50 - and a reserve price set. Unfortunately (for any potential bidders), he's only uploaded 2 of his previous photos - conveniently not those showing the considerable wear to the black chrome plating of the bracelet.

Update - A couple of hours later, yesterday evening, the US eBay seller 'Jim' revised his re-listing, adding a Buy-it-Now option for $200. The 7A38-6010 now has 26 watchers (including myself), but nobody seems in any great rush to hit that button. :/

I've been otherwise preoccupied over the last few days, trying to sort out various issues with the forum - and then it was completely down (again) for the best part of yesterday. So I make no apologies for having temporarily 'dropped the ball' on this one. The US eBay seller made further revisions to his re-listing on 7th January, adding 8 new photos (to the 2 he'd kept from the previous listing). These show the watch in a somewhat better light (literally). What I may previously have construed as 'considerable wear' to the black chrome plating may, to a certain extent, actually have been reflections (and dirt) in his earlier flashlit photos. There now appears to be a great deal of interest in the watch, with 50+ watchers and 22 enquiries (3 questions have been published at the foot of the listing). That said, the bidding, currently at $130, is still short of the reserve, with less than 5 hours till the auction ends.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272511358707

In a couple of the seller's new photos above, the 10 o'clock pusher appears to have been dinged. Then again, it may be reflections.

Here's the Q&A's from the bottom of the listing - the topmost showing that Jim's photos were still far from ideal.

My delay in posting the result of this eBay auction (nearly half an hour after it ended) is down to another spate of Error 521 / 524 and 'Page not found' messages from Webs, while I was composing / editing another post elsewhere on the forum.

Looks like I'm going to have the same problem with this one, so please bear with me.

I was also watching Jim's re-listing for his 7A38-6010 as it came to a close and was bemused to see that someone had actually bid it up to the reserve price of $198.98 with a minute to go. Surely it would have been safer, if the winning bidder was prepared to pay that price, to have hit the Buy-it-Now button ? :/

Anyway, that's how it ended, sold for $199 (approx. £165) after 22 bids.

Earlier today, self-proclaimed expert Dutch eBay seller watch-expert-europe listed a couple of Seiko p/n 8631.0723 NOS bezels for the 7A38-6010 SAA040J. Ignore the rest of the garbage mis-information in their listing title (and description, which I can't be bothered to copy). I'd like to see someone try and fit this bezel on a 7A38-6020 ! Their Buy-it-Now asking price isn't unreasonable @ $60. There's clearly plenty of well-worn 7A38-6010's out there that could use a new bezel. Unfortunately fitting one to such a watch may improve it, but won't solve the issue of worn black chrome coating.

This one-owner 7A38-6010, which appears from the photos to have less than the usual amount of rubbing wear to the vulnerable black chrome coating, was listed yesterday evening by a US eBay seller with a Buy-it-Now price of $249.97. Bearing in mind some of the prices that lesser examples have sold for recently, while certainly no bargain @ $250, I was a little surprised that it hadn't been snapped up already. :/

Here's one for the Wabi lovers. :P This well-worn 7A38-6010, fitted with one of those horrible hair-pulling replacement expanding bracelets (possibly a Speidel) was listed earlier this evening by a German eBay seller, with an opening bid price of 1 Euro.
