Here's one for the Wabi lovers. :P This well-worn 7A38-6010, fitted with one of those horrible hair-pulling replacement expanding bracelets (possibly a Speidel) was listed earlier this evening by a German eBay seller, with an opening bid price of 1 Euro.

That German eBay auction for a well-worn 7A38-6010 ended a few moments ago, selling for 90.23 Euros after 16 bids.

Earlier today, self-proclaimed expert Dutch eBay seller watch-expert-europe listed a couple of Seiko p/n 8631.0723 NOS bezels for the 7A38-6010 SAA040J. Ignore the rest of the garbage mis-information in their listing title (and description, which I can't be bothered to copy). I'd like to see someone try and fit this bezel on a 7A38-6020 ! Their Buy-it-Now asking price isn't unreasonable @ $60. There's clearly plenty of well-worn 7A38-6010's out there that could use a new bezel. Unfortunately fitting one to such a watch may improve it, but won't solve the issue of worn black chrome coating.

Checking my eBay watching page, I noticed the above eBay listing by the 'expert' Dutch eBay seller had ended yesterday afternoon, with a third p/n 8631.0723 NOS bezel sold.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122346244006

They'd presumably purchased another from Seiko Netherlands last month - the last they had in stock (see amendment to listing on 9th April), at which point they added what has become an all too familiar part of their standard description:

THIS BEZEL IS ALREADY DISCONTINUED AT SEIKO

We've got this bezel limited left in stock, thereafter it won't be available anymore

This 7A38-6010 was listed yesterday evening by a German eBay seller, with an opening bid price of 1 Euro and no reserve. Refreshingly, for a change, this used example appears to have suffered far less rubbing wear to the vulnerable black chome coating than we're used to seeing. One thing that lets it down slightly is a badly distorted bracelet joining link on the 12 o'clock side. From the DNA evidence visible in some of the photos, it could probably also benefit from a good clean.

This little better than average worn condition 7A38-6010 was listed yesterday morning by a US eBay seller with a realistic opening bid price of $125. Pity about the short bracelet and the badly scratched case-back. :/

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302349444939

This is an auction for a SEIKO CHRONOGRAPH SPORTS 100 men's wrist watch. The model number is 7A38-6010. This watch features 1/10 sec dial {right}, 1 sec. dial {bottom} and a 30 minute dial {left} and the original SEIKO watch band {6 1/4-1/2 inch wrist}. The watch keeps good time and all dials work excellent {new battery}. The condition is very good to excellent, there is a scratch across the back and the band does show some wear and needs a bit of cleaning. Email with any questions or answers.

I thought that 202 Euros selling price was a little on the high side, but refrained from commenting on it at the time. :/
If you check the bidding history, you'll see the winning bidder placed the last 4 of his 5 bids in the closing minutes ....

You know what I'm already thinking ....

Non-paying bidder or > 100% shill < bidder ?

Anyway, it's back again on eBay Germany again, re-listed yesterday evening:

There really is too much of this kind of thing going on lately.

The re-listed German eBay auction for a 7A38-6010 ended earlier this evening, selling for 167 Euros after 20 bids. A rather more realistic figure than the 202 Euros it made the first time around. There doesn't appear to be any evidence of shill bidding this time.

This 7A38-6010 was listed on Yahoo Japan auctions earlier today, with a rather over-optimistic opening bid price of 30,000 Yen.

http://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/251730202

There are 4 more photos embedded in the description. I bet that lume shot was a LONG exposure (with the crown pulled out). ;)

Google translates the Japanese seller's description as follows:

It is Seiko Speedmaster Chronograph 7A38-6010.

Currently in operation.

Personally I like black gold so I bought it.

Since it was used normally, there are scratches.

The day of the week is written in English. Saturdays are blue Sunday is red.

Because it is overseas specification buckle notation is gold letter SEIKO SQ.

You can not change the conditions after it makes a successful bid.

Because we can not respond to those who do not need evaluation, thank you for your understanding.

I'd previously overlooked to post a result for the above Yahoo Japan auction for a 7A38-6010.  Unsold first time aound, it was subsequently re-listed and sold on 18th July for the opening bid price of ¥30,000 Yen (equivalent to approx. $271 USD / £206 GBP).

This 7A38-6010 was listed FS on WatchuSeek a day or so ago, by Canadian re-seller Morethan1 (who is also a member of this forum) with a laughably over-optimistic asking price of $700 US !!  Even NOS or best condition / mint examples of this model struggle to achieve half that !

http://forums.watchuseek.com/f29/4514673.html  FS: Seiko 7A38-6010 Speedmaster Gold & PVD

As the seller has gone to the trouble of photoshopping out the case-back serial number, I strongly suspect that indicates this watch is one that has sold fairly recently. You can see for yourselves what the preceding 3 examples on Yahoo Japan and eBay went for - considerably less than $350 - let alone $700 !!

The incorrect inclusion of Speedmaster in his title reminded me - whatever happened to his similarly over-priced 7A38-6030 ? :|

Answer: Withdrawn (after 2 bumps with reductions to 'only' $400). I think I can confidently predict the same outcome for this one. ;)

Those of you, who may have been following the activities of profiteering Dutch eBay seller watch-expert-europe will probably be aware that eBay blocked his account around the end of July. Presumably the 'cooling off period' was for 90 days, because the account was reinstated a couple of weeks ago. Since then, Matt Sijm has been busy re-listing all his over-priced offerings - including stuff that supposedly won't be available anymore. Yesterday, he re-listed the 7A38-6030 NOS bezels (again Qty. 3 of them), but now with the Buy-it-Now price hiked from the previous reasonable $59.99 (USD) to 79.99 Euros.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122815549374

In fact, he's listed them twice - they're also on eBay.com with a BIN price of $93.95.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122815554187

Same inept mistakes by the alleged 'expert' in the titles and description of both listings though, despite the fact he's had 3 months to check and correct them. As I wrote previously, I'd like to see someone try fitting one of these bezels on a 7A38-6020. You'd need a pretty big hammer !

This 7A38-6010 in average worn condition, typically with a fair loss of black chrome plating, but also a nasty graunch on the bezel insert, was listed yesterday evening by a Cyprus based eBay seller. The opening bid price is £0.99 - no takers so far. :/

This 7A38-6010 in average worn condition was listed late yesterday evening by a UK eBay seller with a slightly over-optimistic Buy-it-Now price of £225 (or option to make an offer). The seller, 334Colin has listed a number of 7A38's (and other Seiko watches) recently. I wonder if he's dissolving a collection. :/

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282835803796

Here we have my 7a38-6010 in perfect working order and good condition has general wear but nothing serious for age, the pushers are a little stiff but all work correctly. Everything resets as it should and keeps perfect time and day/date , strap is sized for a 7.5" wrist with no spare links, any questions please ask, please pay within 24 hours after buying, thanks for looking.

A 'NOS' black chrome plated bracelet, which does indeed appear to be the correct Seiko p/n G1157F for a 7A38-6010, was listed earlier today by a Cypriot eBay seller with a Buy-it-Now price of $99 (or option to make offer). This is the same seller v8-unltd who sold a 7A38-6010 in January (see penultimate post). Couple of things to note: There are no bracelet end pieces and no shipping cost stated. The seller's second part of his description doesn't help the impression that he's one probably best avoided.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173151089059

Hard to find original new Seiko black band "NO ENDS". I believe is suitable for 7A38-6010 series.

please ask questions before buying or biding

good luck

thanks

NOTE FOR MY CUSTOMERS ! ! the following email received from the buyer because i didn't gave in ! ! ! ! has left me a negative feedback P/P was included in my listing.

Personally I share a similar dislike of eBay sellers who cheat their buyers on postage in an effort to increase their profits - and probably would have done the same. If you check the seller's feedback, that isn't actually the only 'negative' feedback he's received recently.

The 10-day listing for his average worn condition 7A38-6010 by UK eBay seller 334colin ended late last night - unsold.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282835803796

As you can see, it shows as having been re-listed, but if you click on the link ....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282849144569 you're met with this error message:

Why eBay pulled it is anyone's guess. Perhaps the watch has been sold off eBay.

One things for certain, nobody thought it was worth his 'pie-in-the-sky' asking price of £255. Checking the eBay Offer history, there were only two offers made (by the same person), both declined by the seller, the higher of which was only £155.

Mystery solved - the re-listing (same item # as was in the link) appeared about an hour ago - but now as a 7-day auction listing, with an opening bid price of £185. Presumably, after creating it, the seller suspended the re-listing so it would finish at a more sensible time, rather than the middle of the night.

Although he'd set it up as a 7-day auction, it would appear that the seller was not averse to accepting offers. Around 9:30pm last night, he revised the listing dropping the opening bid price from £185 to £85 and added a Buy-it-Now option for £195. The 7A38-6010 sold a few minutes later for the Buy-it-Now price.
