Earlier today, we had our first spammer register as member - an allegedly 25 year old chinese female, going by the username of 'qitom', who was touting a variety of replica luxury watches and handbags. The member ID 'qitom' and 8 posts have now all been deleted, though some minor evidence of their visit currently remains - only in the 'Last Updated' column on the Forum Home page.

Nothing at all. Just go try it on someone else's website - might I suggest a Spamish language forum. Goodbye Spammer # 2

PS - In case anybody was wondering what was going on, I was just experimenting - seeing if it was possible to delete a 'forum member',

but still leave their contribution intact (as evidence of their visit, in this case). Seems it is.  Thanks to whoever flagged the post.

Thanks, Andre.

PS - Something I forgot to comment on was how considerate it was of the spammer to post in this particular thread. Very strange.

Having given him ample opportunity to 'clean up his act', before our newest member starts posting SPAM anywhere else on the site ....

He's all washed up.

Cute, she may be - if her Facebook and Twitter pics are anything to go by; fancies herself as a Kim Kardashian wannabe  but ....

Lauren, or Lozza!! as she prefers to be known, has left the building.

Reason ? I don't take sh!t from anybody, least of all some bimbo who joined the site purely to promote their eBay listing for a 7T59 !

Earlier today, the forum was attacked by a prolific and slightly smarter-than-average kind of spammer in the form of one Doctordre:

If his IP address is real (as opposed to a fake proxy), he hails from Kiev in the Ukraine:

For those of you missed them, his 17 posts (across 6 different forum sections) took the form of adverts for an online pharmacy:

What was different about them was they took over the entire page, obsuring any previous post content (but only on that page).

Thanks to everyone who flagged them up.

No sooner than I deleted one, and returned to the main forum page, than this popped up again ! :o

Getting rid of Doktordre himself was easy - and quick. Cleaning up the mess he left behind him took rather longer.

Most had to be removed by editing HTML (because the rest of the posts and buttons were also hidden from myself).

But did anybody else see these kind of posts (before I deleted them) ?

Hello and Goodbye to ....

Why do all SEO spammers use Gmail ?

Indeed, why does a quick google search on the alleged Mike Douglas' dominicanhub gmail account return so much similar crap ?

Nothing against a bit of decent watch porn, but ....

Nope - looks like the same old thing to me - GENUINE SPAM.

Amazing. This thread, over a year and half old, and not a single Monty Python reference!

PS - In case you hadn't noticed I'm a big Python fan myself. ;) There are plenty more references elsewhere on the forum: for example.

The two-stage registration process for new members that I implemented last month (manually accept, intially at 'limited member' rank), I'd mentioned in this thread in the Members' Lounge section, appears to have trapped its first spammer - before they even got on the board. Just checked the control panel and saw a new registration: username veraaa and email address [email protected]

Googled the email address, as I sometimes do. One of the first results returned was this:

http://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/ the nigerians are here

Not here they're not !  Alo and Goodbye Vera ! :P

Incidentally, this allegedly young black female scammer / spammer hails not from Nigeria, nor Rwanda (per above link) but Senegal:

You think I'd have learned my lesson from the first post that started off this thread, just over two years ago.

But a pretty face - and attractive long-dark-haired ladies in particular, have frequently proved to be my undoing.

For the few brief minutes her flirtation with the forum lasted, this one looked rather alluring from her borrowed profile photo.

I picked up this potential spammer's registration from the control panel yesterday:

But foolishly decided to accept and invited them to complete a profile. The warning bells were already ringing when, early this morning, I noticed her using a completely different IP adress in Nanchang, China; plus she'd arrived via a Portuguese incoming Google search - (although, in hindsight, that may have been to get around the Chinese government's censorship of Google). The email address she'd registered with: [email protected] was most definitely a Chinese domain.

In the 20 minutes or so that I left my PC and went downstairs to have a bit of breakfast, she managed to get a couple of SPAM posts in:

So when I came back, there was really only one course of action left ....

再见 , Chen Shan Mei.

Hmm, interesting.  Not quite sure how she managed it, but Chinese spammer ChenShanMei managed to get another SPAM post in, during the early hours of this morning ! :/ Thanks to the two forum members who flagged it - but it wasn't exactly hard to miss. ;)

Once again the text of the message was in German:

I had most certainly banned her two days ago, so how the heck (any trace of) her profile still existed is beyond me.

Looks like she came straight back in (from another incoming Portuguese Google search):

THEN asked for her membership to be re-instated - afterwards ! :o

Needless to say she got the . If she somehow manages to come back again, I'll get in touch with Webs (total lack of) Support.

It's been 18 months since the forum fell victim to a spammer (by dint of my erroniously accepting their membership application). :)

I must admit that lately I'd become a little blasé about new membership applications - simply because the majority who successfully manage to join the forum contribute very little. :/ So any new application that looks vaguely suspicious (either the choice of username, email address or IP address) gets rejected without a second thought - and I'm talking about up to 50% of all new applications.

Last night there was an interesting one (particularly as I happen to know a lady of the same name):

Problem was their IP address showed this person was in India.

I've found a useful little website / forum that I shall probably use again: http://www.stopforumspam.com/forum/

Here's their current data for 'Teresa Smith': http://www.stopforumspam.com/ipcheck/106.76.92.16

Needless to say, Teresa won't be joining us.
