Here's another 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 that was listed a couple of hours later, as a 10-day no reserve auction with an opening bid price of £0.99. It's been shall we say creatively photographed to appeal to the military enthusiast and is described in glowing and extremely lengthy terms ad nauseam by the seller. In fact, he goes on about it so much, I'm not sure whether I can be arsed to copy and paste it all.

Surprising what a few clever miltary themed photos and a wordy description can achieve.  That UK eBay auction for a 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 ended yesterday evening selling for £1220 after 51 bids.  Must be some kind of new auction selling price record, I guess. I've already eaten my hat, so I'll get my coat.

This 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 'head only' was listed earlier this evening by a UK eBay seller, with a Buy-it-Now price of £899.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232573958380

Checking my eBay watching page, I noticed the above listing for a 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 'head only' ended this morning, sold for the £899 Buy-it-Now asking price.

Here's another 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 'Head Only' listed earler this evening by a US eBay seller, with a Buy-it-Now price of $999 or best offer.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162774147702

Over the last couple of weeks, that US eBay seller had made a number of revisions to his listing, notably reductions to the Buy-it-Now price (3 times), ending @ $699.

The watch sold yesterday evening, not for the much reduced Buy-it-Now price ....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162774147702

But as revealed by WatchCount.com's Look-up tool, against a best offer of $625:

There's another of those miltary surplus auctions by Witham Specialist Vehicles Ltd. coming up next week (ends Midday on Friday 15th December).

http://www.bidspotter.co.uk/en-gb/auction-catalogue-id-witham10053

According to the blurb, there are a large quantity of military watches including Seiko Gen. 1 and Gen. 2 Pilot's chronos .... I suppose there are (in total), but apart from the thirteen 7T27 Gen. 2's there are only three 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1's in this particular auction (that I could see).

They're Lot numbers: 27, 40 and 56, for anyone who might be interested:

The last one, Lot 56 has 6 bids on it already. If you fancy having a punt, don't forget there's 5% commission and 20% VAT to be added onto the final bid price.

This 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 was listed yesterday evening by a UK eBay seller, with a Buy-it-Now price of £850 or best offer. In the photos it appears to be fitted with a rather dog-eared looking black leather strap, but the seller describes it as: 'comes on a 20mm black NATO military strap', for reasons best known to him. :/

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162801925863

Here's a chance to buy a perennial favourite of military watch lovers. This is the generation 1 version of the Seiko RAF pilot's chronograph. This is the one with the exceptionally high quality early quartz movement, and is a watch only made for the military, with no civilian version.

The watch has a lovely 1/10 seconds hand which whirls around in a dramatic fashion, and then pauses, resetting to the point at which it would have been stopped when the chronograph is stopped.

This example is working perfectly, with all functions working well, and hands re-setting properly to the 12 o'clock position of course. The case has no major dings or dents. The watch comes on a 20mm black NATO military strap, which fits onto the fixed bars common to most military watches.

Please do get in touch with us at mwwatches if you have any questions. I have listed this for Special Delivery and if purchased before Thursday it will be with you before Christmas! (UK buyers only of course).

The above eBay listing for a 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 ended yesterday morning.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/332487071631

Sold not for the somewhat ambitious £995 Buy-it-Now price, but as revealed by WatchCount.com's Look-up tool, for a rather lower figure of £700, against an offer.

The one immediately preceding that also ended yesterday evening, when the seller ended the listing early, as item no longer available. Presumably sold off eBay for a reduced figure.

Another 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 was listed yesterday evening by a UK eBay seller, as a 7-day auction, with an opening bid price of £750.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182862110393

UK eBay seller muckleston1 had re-listed their 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 twice, at the same opening bid price of £750, without success. Yesterday evening, they listed it for a fourth time, with the opening bid price now reduced to £600.

I'm not going to bother mincing my words. Like the would-be seller, I'll go direct to the point. :P This ridiculously speculatively over-priced (and only average) example of a 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 was listed yesterday by a Spanish eBay seller. The Buy-it-Now asking price is 1450 Euros or £1300 Quid in real money. :o No make offer option. Dream on.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302499448087

That average condition 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 listed by the Spanish eBay seller, with a fanciful Buy-it-Now price of 1450 Euros at the end of October, appears to have finally sold this afternoon - as a Buy-it-Now for the slightly reduced figure of 1200 Euros. Still stupid money, IMHO.

UK eBay seller muckleston1 listed another 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 yesterday, with the same £600 opening bid price as his previous re-listed auction. For some reason, this morning, a matter of minutes after I took my screen print, he's made a couple of revisions to the listing, including shortening the title to just seiko gen 1.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/182991761242

The Seiko chronograph was issued by the Royal Air Force from 1984 until 1990 and replaced the mechanical chronographs that were issued to pilots from the 1940s (initially these were supplied by Lemania although later a variety of companies supplied suitable watches). The watch is referred to within military watch circles as a Seiko RAF Gen 1 to denote it from the later Gen 2 watches which were issued after 1990. Seiko was the first company to develop an analog-quartz chronograph in 1983, prior to this all chronographs were either mechanical or used a digital LCD display. Technically the movement (the 7A28) was a great achievement and they have a reputation for being well made and, with regular servicing, long-lasting timepieces As with all British military-issued timepieces the watch follows stipulations laid down by the Ministry of Defence, generally this makes for a very legible and sober design. The case of the watch is different from any that Seiko offered to civilian customers - it has a matte sand-blasted finish and the overall impression is of a very nice well balanced watch. Case diameter (excluding winding crown): 38mm Case material: stainless steel strap width: 18mm

Here's the first eBay listing of 2018 for a 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 for 2018 - listed by an Italian eBay seller yesterday lunchtime, with a Buy-it-Now price of 860 Euros (or best offer). Ignore the incorrect model number(s) in the description.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/292393994046

L'orologio funziona perfettamente (tenuta tempo e funzioni cronografiche). Spedizione in Italia, Europa e Giappone.

For sale Seiko 7a28-7290 Raf gen 1. The blasted case is in very good condition, the back has some marks, the glass (original) has some scratches. Replacement glass is easily available but I chose to keep it for the sake of correctness. All functions work flawlessly (start, stop, split, reset). The watch is located in Milan (Italy) , shipment to Europe or Japan only, with registered mail.

Checking my eBay watching page, it appears that the above Italian eBay listing for the first 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 of 2018 sold later yesterday evening.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/292393994046

Not for the full 860 Euros Buy-it-Now price, but as revealed by WatchCount.com for a best offer of 800 Euros.

Note the times shown below in the eBay Offer / Purchase History are the times when the offers were tendered - not when the seller accepted / declined them (some 7 hours later). More misleading information from eBay.

This 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1, fitted with an Xtreme webbing strap, was listed a couple of days ago, by a UK eBay seller, as a 10-day auction, with an opening bid price of £50. It didn't get picked up by my usual saved searches, because the seller has titled the listing simply as 'Seiko Pilot Watch'. Instead it came up as an eBay 'suggestion'. Still, a few other people have obviously seen it, because bidding is currently @ £250.

SEIKO Pilot Watch

Genuine Issue Military RAF

The Watch appears to be working well and keeping good time although all the hands are not syncing correctly so it would benefit with a service and new strap.

I have had this watch since approx. 2000 and worn it regularly for several years but it is now kept in a drawer with little use. It does show signs of wear as can be seen by the scratched glass.

The Watch is Sold as Untested so please have a good look at the images before bidding.

This next 'ex-military' 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 was listed yesterday evening by a UK eBay seller, with an opening bid price of £0.99 and no reserve.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322992373552

Here we have for sale a good second hand ex military Seiko generation 1 pilots watch.

It dates from 1988 as can be seen in the pictures. It has the usual wear marks for a watch of this age but it keeps perfect time and all functions work.

The strap could probably do with re-newing but only if your wearing the time piece to go out in. It is ideal for work which is what I wore it for and I'm only selling due to getting a smart watch for Christmas.

These are getting quite sort after now and are an appreciating watch.

Please feel free to ask any questions.

Another 'sort after' (sic) watch.

As I was looking at that one, I'd noticed the other 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1, listed by the UK eBay seller nicksalls had been bid to £455. The auction still had a couple of days to run and was due to finish on 20th January @ 20:04, but yesterday evening, he ended it (three days) early, stating it was no longer available, cancelling all bids, which no doubt p!ssed off a few of the bidders and watchers.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm322992373552

In such instances, it's sometimes worth checking the bidding history - if only for the bid cancellations. They included one bid for £799 made on 14th January and another for £665 made @ 7:04pm yesterday. The auction was terminated, automatically cancelling all bids @ 8:13pm.

That said, even though one bidder was potentially prepared to bid as high as £799, it doesn't necessarily mean it sold for that figure (or more) - assuming it was sold off eBay via the 'back door'.
