While I'm updating this thread, although I've a few others which also need updating, I may as well post this - albeit 'out of order'. :P

Yesterday evening, a 7A38-6000 fitted with a black aftermarket bezel and non-original Seiko bracelet was listed by a French eBay seller. It's yet another case of  Déjà Vu - a watch we've seen twice before, that's been previously sold by two other French eBay sellers. It last appeared in this thread in July 2015, at the top of the previous page, but now appears to have another issue.

That French eBay auction for the 'somewhat less than original' 7A38-6000 ended a few moments ago, selling for a rather surprising 186 Euros after 14 bids. The auction was won by 'mystery bidder' n***e, who typically sniped it in the final seconds. From some of his previous purchases, he doesn't seem too bothered about originality or condition. Hopefully that'll be the last we see of it anyway.

I really don't know quite what to say about this latest listing for a 7A38-6000, which appeared on eBay this morning. Unlike most of the Filipino 'watch botchers' (as I call them), I've always had a lot of time for José Sotto (a.k.a watchcooking) - I've even bought a couple of 7A38's from him in the distant past. But it would appear that he too has jumped on the speculative over-pricing bandwagon.

It's a well-worn example, typical of what you'd expect of an ex-Philippines watch (surprisingly still fitted with the original bezel insert), on a grotty secondhand black nylon bund strap. According to José's description it comes with the original stainless bracelet, but there's no sign of it in his photos. But $580 José ?? Are you having a laugh ?

José Sotto's 7-day eBay listing for a well-worn 7A38-6000 on a nylon bund strap ended earlier this morning - unsold, despite his having reduced the Buy-it-Now price from the original risible $580 to to a slightly less outlandish $490 around midnight.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371800315566

Presumingly he's going to re-list it at some point, hopefully at a more realistic price.

He now has, for 30 days - unfortunately at the same reduced 'pie-in-the-sky' Buy-it-Now asking price of $490.

Still, at least it'll be in good company :P ....

Inept Italian Zero feedback seller federiccurz0 recently re-listed his similarly over-priced 7A38-6000, for another 30 days.

José Sotto ended his 30-day re-listing for that 7A38-6000 after only 5 days. Presumably the error was in the pricing. :P

He re-listed it again as a low start auction ($9 opening bid) - but with a reserve price set. I wonder what that might be. :/

José Sotto's re-listed eBay auction for that 7A38-6000 fitted with a nylon bund strap ended this morning. It reached $177.50 after 18 bids, which given the condition, one might think was a pretty fair price. But the reserve price was still not met. :( So whether it'll reappear on eBay in due course, remains to be seen. :/

José Sotto's tired-looking 7A38-6000 is back on eBay again, re-listed a couple of days ago - once again with a reserve price set.

Quite incredibly, inept newbie zero-feedback Italian eBay seller federiccurz0 has re-listed his 7A38-6000 once again ....

with the previous ludicrous 550 Euros Buy-it-Now price increased to an absolutely ridiculous opening bid price of  700 Euros !!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262793844143

Apart from the pointless hike to an already idiotic asking price, you would have thought he might have realized by now, that he isn't doing himself any favours, by continuing to use that 'borrowed' photo of a much worse example as his primary image.

José Sotto's re-listed eBay auction for that 7A38-6000 fitted with a nylon bund strap ended in the early hours this morning.

This time around it only made $134.50 after 26 bids - and again the reserve price was not met. :(

I'm not sure if this is one we've seen before - and quite frankly I haven't got the time or inclination, to wade through all the photos I've posted in this thread, comparing bezel inlay graunches and case-back serial numbers, but let's just say it looks vaguely familiar.

This 7A38-6000 fitted with a NATO strap in place of the original Seiko p/n G1157S bracelet was listed yesterday evening by an Italian eBay seller, with an opening bid price of only 1 Euro. Bidding is currently at 51 Euros.

The above Italian eBay auction for a 7A38-6000 fitted with a NATO strap ended a few moments ago, selling for 136 Euros (approx. £117.31) after 23 bids.

Earlier today, self proclaimed expert Dutch eBay seller watch-expert-europe listed a couple of Seiko p/n 8631.0683 NOS bezels for the 7A38-6000 SAA039J. Ignore the rest of the garbage mis-information in their listing title (and description, which I can't be bothered to copy). I'd like to see someone try and fit this bezel on a 7A38-6020 ! They were evidently in 'copy and paste your dumb mistakes' mode, having made almost identical gaffes on their other listing for NOS 7A38-6010 bezels. The Buy-it-Now asking price wasn't unreasonable @ $60 - IIRC, somewhat cheaper than Tony Plaza was selling them for a year or so back.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122346241446

Less than an hour after they were listed, both were sold:

I note that the 'expert' Dutch eBay seller has since re-listed two more of these Seiko p/n 8631.0683 NOS bezels - but the Buy-it-Now price has gone up from the previous $59.99 to $79.99.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122355044665

Belated edit: Their asking price was subsequently further increased to $89.99 for the 'Last One' on 9th March.

Carlo. Your 7A38-6000 may not be as cosmopolitan as you'd like to think. ;)

The eBay seller watch-expert-europe may give their location as Zwaagdijk, Netherlands, but every packet I've received from them has been sent via Deutches Post, postmarked Frankfurt, with a return address of Niederaula (Germany).

Paul, You are right the packet arrived from Niederaula :/ but I paid in US Dollar :)

This almost mint stainless 7A38-6000 Panda was listed earlier this morning by a German eBay seller, with a rather tempting Buy-it-Now price of 275 Euros. So I thought I'd better take a screen print a bit sharpish, as I didn't expect it to hang around very long at that price.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132121563377

It didn't.  Before I even had a chance to start writing this post, the seller made a number of revisions to the listing ....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemRevisionDetails&item=132121563377

Most significantly, increasing the Buy-it-Now price by 100 Euros to 375 Euros.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132121563377

Zum Verkauf aus Sammlung,

Seltener Seiko Vintage Quartz Chronograph aus den 1980er Jahren in sehr guten, fast ungetragenen Zustand.

Referenz 7A38-6000. Gehäusedurchmesser ohne Krone 36 mm.

Es handelt sich hier um einen der ersten Quartz Chronographen die Seiko damals auf den Markt gebracht hat.

Verkauf erfolgt von privat, keine Rücknahme. Versand erfolgt versichert.

You'll note I described it as 'almost mint'. I may be wrong, but I suspect the case-back may have been skimmed and polished. Not the top surface, obviously, but the bevelled edge. Study that last photo. To my eyes at least, the bevel looks just a little too big. :/

The above German eBay listing for the stainless 7A38-6000 'Panda' ended in the early hours of this morning.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/132121563377

As one might have expected, it sold not for the full 375 Euros Buy-it-Now price as shown above, but against a Best Offer.

A strange result though, bearing in mind that yesterday the German seller increased the B-I-N from 275 to 375 Euros.

Straight from the horses mouth, so to speak (rather than using Goofbid), eBay itself reveals it sold for only 250 Euros.

As confirmed by the eBay offer history. Note the seller previously declined two other offers of 250 Euros, earlier yesterday.

I notice that the alleged European expert eBay seller has listed another NOS 7A38-6000 bezel this morning - once again supposedly 'the last one'.  This time the Buy-it-Now price has been greedily increased again to $129.99 - more than double the reasonable $59.99 they were originally asking at the beginning of last month. Some people might say it's 'just business' or 'supply and demand'. Me ? I call it like I see it - downright blatant profiteering.

It looks like inept zero-feedback Italian eBay seller federico.curzi (previously federiccurz0) is still trying to flog his 7A38-6000 - on the strength of somebody else's 'borrowed' photos. This time he's picked a couple of rather better ones. In case you don't recognise them, they're from two eBay listings for the same NOS 7A38-6000, by Italian eBay sellers angeli_65 and strega_68, from July and October 2012. The giveaway, being the De Tomaso Mangusta model car in the primary image. Both listings, complete with their photos appear towards the bottom of the first page of this thread. As the original eBay listings have long since disappeared into the ether, there's little doubt where Federico 'borrowed' them from this time.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262957731574

Presumably the third image is actually of his own 7A38-6000, that is being offered for sale.

Unless I'm missing something, there doesn't appear to be a description as such, just this in the seller's notes:

“Seiko Chronograph Quartz Sports 100 - Vintage 1983 FUNZIONANTE. Per qualsiasi informazione contattatemi al 338.4678118 WORKING.”

Checking my eBay watching page, I was surprised to see that inept Italian eBay seller Federico's latest re-listing for his misrepresented 7A38-6000 had ended yesterday evening, apparently sold for the 450 Euros Buy-it-Now asking price.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262957731574

.... as confirmed by the purchase history: http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item=262957731574

I think somebody is going to be disappointed. :/
