Can't fix your 7Axx ?   Beyond repair ? Then break it up and list the parts on eBay (in separate lots, so nobody will notice).

Looks like an Italian eBay seller has copied US eBay seller rbetts2345's idea (see my last two posts on the previous page) ....

Because these three new listings came up in my first worldwide eBay search, earlier this morning.

Once again, from the grey 710L dial, it looks like the 'victim' was probably either a two-tone 7A38-7190 or 7A38-7280.

PS - There is ABSOLUTELY NO SIGNIFICANCE WHATSOEVER to the fact that I'm watching the middle lot. Trust me !

This badly water-damaged 7A28-7040 came up in a Liveauctioneer's notification this morning, together in a job lot with a 7T32 and a Seiko Kinetic. Clearly this one's been resting rusting at the bottom of the 7Axx barrel for a little while. :(

The actual auction is being held by Eastbourne Auctions (UK) as the second day of their Fine Art and Collectors Sale on Friday September 14th, starting 10:00am. It's Lot # 1093. For anyone feeling brave enough, the opening bid price is £20 and auctioneer's estimate is £50 - £100 (+24% commission). You'll need to pre-register to be approved for bidding. Me ? I think I'll pass.

There's been a lot of over-priced, little better than junk listed on eBay in the last 12 months, that I haven't bothered to mention. But I couldn't let this one pass, without giving James's aptly titled old thread a well-deserved long overdue bump. Listed in the early hours of this morning, by Filipino eBay seller watchhunter1 - this sorry remnant of what once was a 7A38-7240. Makes you wonder why he bothered.

Perhaps someone should point out to him that Nigeria is actually in Africa.

There've been quite a few examples of what I'd class as irredeemable junk listed on eBay lately. I simply haven't had time to add them all to this thread. Here's the two most recent - both classic examples of 'Bottom of the 7Axx Barrel' fodder.

This stainless 7A38-7280 'head only' was listed yesterday, by a Spanish eBay seller, as a 7-day auction with an optimistic opening bid price of 29.50 Euros.

Reloj Seiko 7A38-7280 Vintage. El estado es Usado.

EL RELOJ NO FUNCIONA ES PARA REPARAR O PIEZAS DONT WORK ONLY FOR SPARES OR REPAIR SOLD AS IS.

I'd suspect from the screw missing from the centre of the anti-magnetic back-plate, that Rahul has already had this one apart and discovered that it's beyond saving.

This badly water damaged 7A38-7190 two-tone (head only?) was listed earlier this morning by an Indian eBay seller with a wishful Buy-it-Now price of $25.

VINTAGE SEIKO 7A38-7190 CHRONOGRAPH QUARTZ S.S MEN'S WATCH FOR PARTS & REPAIRS USED FOR WATCHMAKERS.

Normally, our watch-botching friends from the Indian sub-continent manage to get most 7Axx's running after a fashion. From the broken / missing hands, someone's obviously already had a go at this one. It tickled me that in one of the photos, they'd put it in a zip-lock packet. I'd have thought it was a bit late for that !

Here's another horror from the Indian sub-continent - indeed from the same eBay seller watchmakerrighttime. This stainless 7A38-7270 'head only' which he listed this morning, as a Buy-it-Now for $30, looks like it's suffered monsoon damage.

I recently scraped the bottom of the 7Axx barrel myself. Well, not exactly the Seiko 7Axx barrel, but the Orient J3920 barrel. It wasn't as if I really needed another two-tone Orient J39012-50 either. I already have an almost mint example, plus another half presentable one. That's apart from the blingier all over gold-plated J39911-50 and a few more examples of the Racer J39907-50 equivalent, than anybody with a modicum of good taste should ever admit to.

But it was there on eBay UK and it was cheap and I succumbed to temptation.

ORIENT CHRONOGRAPH QUARTZ WATCH FOR REPAIR OR SPAIRE NO WORKING

UP FOR AUCTION

ORIENT CHRONOGRAPH QUARTZ WATCH FOR REPAIR OR SPAIRE NO WORKING.

THANK YOU FOR WATCHING AND HAPPY BIDDING.

Nobody else bid on it and I won the auction for the opening bid price of £9 Quid. :)

My initial thoughts had always been to break it up for parts. It arrived in the post this lunchtime. Yes, the bezel was a bit knocked about, but I could see through the lightly scratched crystal that the dial and hands were clean. So it might possibly have been a 'quick fix' that I could use as a 'beater'. I removed the non-original aftermarket bracelet and unscrewed the case-back, to be met with this mess.

It's suffered a fairly serious battery leak and without removing the anti-magnetic back-plate, past experience tells me that the negative terminal area of the PCB is likely to be toast. So it's back to my original plan of breaking it up for parts.

That's always the gamble when buying a 'bargain' described as 'Not Working'. Some you win; some you lose. :/

Here's another candidate for the 'Bottom of the 7Axx Barrel' thread, except from its 'arty' photo backgrounds, 'Bottom of the Fish Tank' might be more appropriate. This grubby non-running 7A38-7069 Head Only, with a washed out water damaged dial, was listed as 'For Parts or Repair' late yesterday evening by a US eBay seller, as a 10-day auction, with an opening bid price of $9.99. Note that there's no photo of the movement included. I wonder why (not).

There have been a lot of cheap junk parts watches on eBay recently, that I haven't bothered to mention, but here's a prime candidate for James's bottom of the barrel thread. It was once a two-tone 7A38-7270. It was listed earlier this morning by an Italian eBay seller based in Thailand, with a laughable 'pie-in-the-sky' Buy-it-Now price of 89 Euros (or the option to make a much lower offer - if you're desperate). It's fitted with a non-original replacement Seiko bracelet and non-original crown. The water damaged dial and sand-blasted appearance is a sure sign it's been worn to at least one Thai beach party too many. 8)
