I'm not sure if I should be mentioning this one. It's almost like giving the member a free plug. :P

So I'll say no more than: this stainless 7A38-7260 was listed on eBay last week by a US seller.

Seiko-----7A38-7260 -----15 Jewel Chronograph ....From July 1987......Working fine......New crystal and new Hirsch Water Resistant band.......Photo's show condition.......

The style of description, with plenty of dots and dashes (typically found in his posts) should be a clue to the seller's identity. ;)

The above eBay listing for a stainless 7A38-7260 ended mid-week, with the watch unsold. The US seller subsequently re-listed it as an auction with an opening bid price of $199 and the Buy-it-Now option reduced to $295. Still no bidders at the time of posting.

The above US eBay auction for a stainless 7A38-7260 ended in the early hours of this morning, selling to the sole bidder for the opening bid price of $199 (approx. £160).

Looks like the "release" mechanism failed and the sale fell through, because Don's stainless 7A38-7260 was back on eBay yesterday evening - re-listed, with the opening bid price reduced from $199 to $189.

The buyer said that "It ran for 15 minutes and stopped" He wanted a refund.  I asked if the chrono function stopped or if it stopped keeping time. He said that it stopped telling time. I said maybe the  battery, I had forgotton to install a fresh one upon shipping. He said he would take it to " his watch guy" .  Then he said the watch started up in the middle of the night and he was returning it.  When the watch arrived it was set to east coast time and right on time ------GEE if you don't like a watch just say so         Back in the "day" before the internet I would buy watches based on a written description and many times the watch did not meet the description and was sent back for refund   :P

I give up !      Now it's too infamous to sell.  :P   I've received an offer from someone ( not a forum member, I asked ) who has tracked it on this site,  from the time I bought it from the German seller.

I blame you for this next one, Don. :P This 'head only' stainless 7A38-7260 was listed earlier this evening by a Bulgarian eBay seller - with a copycat 'pie-in-the-sky' Buy-it-Now price of $325.

Shipping and returns: I use traditional and economical way to ship the items and that varies from one week till about 25 days, depending on destination, so please sometimes be a little more patient.

I described careful the item that I sell and I put the real pictures of my product, so I do not accept the return because the process is long and associated with additional costs for both parties. So please watch careful and if there are any questions do not hesitate to ask me. I'll answer as soon as possible.

Nice shopping!

I suppose I should draw a line under this one, if only by posting an inconclusive result. :/

The above listing for a 'head only' ended with the 7A38-7260 unsold, despite the Bulgarian seller reducing the price to $299.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322392974398

He re-listed it twice more in February, again for 10 days at a time @ $299 with predictably the same outcome ....

And again in March, with the price further reduced to $275. That most recent re-listing was ended early, a week or so ago:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322446323203

Presumably the error was in the pricing.  Or perhaps fitting a strap might have helped ....

Speaking of straps, I noticed the alleged European watch experts have recently acquired some stock of 'the genuine article'.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122407884271

While certainly not cheap @  $50, this is the correct original fitment leather strap for a stainless 7A38-7260, Seiko p/n BRA35S.

I have one fitted to my genuinely NOS example (more photos on page 1) :

Seems I spoke too soon, 'cos it's back again this morning - re-listed at the same 'pie-in-the-sky' Buy-it-Now asking price.

Obviously just another eBay seller playing the 'Now you see it; now you don't' game, in a vain effort to find themselves a buyer.

The Italian eBay seller ended the above listing early, yesterday evening, because of an alleged error. Presumably sold off eBay via the 'back door'. Who knows ? :/

Hard to believe it's been well over 6 months since I last updated this thread with a sighting of a stainless 7A38-7260 on eBay. In the intervening period I've spotted probably a dozen or more of the two-tone versions and quite a few gold-tones. I don't believe it's because the stainless SAA097J is any rarer than the others. Rather more likely their owners just tend to hang onto them.

This example, fitted with a non-original Seiko SQ bracelet, was listed late yesterday evening by an Italian eBay seller, with an opening bid price of 35 Euros. The watch case and bracelet have similar levels of wear (scratches), so it's quite possible that they've been together for many years. But a steel bracelet wasn't a factory option (this model only came on a leather strap), so it may have been fitted by the shop who sold it, at the buyer's request. I can't quite read the numbers on the ears of the end pieces, so can't accurately identify what it belongs to. Might be off a 7T32 or a period quartz Diver. If you look closely at the bracelet end pieces, there are gaps where their curvature doesn't match the watch case.

The Italian eBay seller ended his 7-day auction listing for a stainless 7A38-7260, fitted with a non-original Seiko bracelet, yesterday evening, two days early, citing 'because the item is no longer available'. There had only been one bid placed (at the opening 35 Euros bid price) and that was retracted the day before. Presumably sold off eBay for an undisclosed offer. :/

This well-worn stainless 7A38-7260, with manky lume and badly scratched crystal, was listed earlier this evening, by a French eBay seller, as a 10-day auction, with an opening bid price of 49 Euros. One can only assume that the seller is extremely short-sighted or has cloned a previous listing. Check out the couple of obvious mistakes in the listing header.

The French eBay seller ended the above erroneous listing for a stainless 7A38-7260 in the early hours of this morning, because there was an error (or two) in the listing. Probably the best thing he could have done in the circumstances.
