Another 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 was listed by another UK eBay seller, yesterday evening as 7-day auction, with an opening bid price of £850. Presumably the seller is expecting it to make more than that.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233231407489

It didn't. :( After three more 7-day auction re-listings @ £850, the UK eBay seller reduced his opening bid price to £750. Three more 7-day re-listings later, it finally sold for that reduced opening bid price this lunchtime. The winning bidder sniped it in the final seconds.

Earlier this afternoon, regular UK eBay seller skytwang listed another 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1, in average worn condition, with a Buy-it-Now price of £820 or the option to make an offer.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143333928849

This listing is for a 1989 Seiko 7A28-7120 Gen 1 MoD issued aircrew chronograph.

Condition and operation

The case is clean and in very good condition with minor marks from use. The case back has some wear and surface marks. The case back has the correct stamped issue marks including NATO stock number, country code, item number, issue number and date ('89'). The crystal is new and is clear and unmarked. The dial and hands look very good. The watch is running perfectly. Chrono functions all reset to zero and can be manually re-set if required (pull the crown out to the first stop and press the relevant button to reset the corresponding function, then push the crown back in).

The watch is fitted with a new original green NATO-style strap.

The service history is unknown but the following work has been carried out:

- New crystal

- Case disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned

- Pushers removed, disassembled, cleaned, greased and refitted

- Movement functions checked

- New Renata battery installed

- Case back gasket greased and refitted

Notes

I would recommend that the buyer download a copy of the 7A28 instruction manual from one of the several websites where this is available.

Please carefully check the photographs before buying to assess condition. The photographs form part of the description.

Note that this is a vintage watch and although the seals are in place, waterproofing/water resistance has not been tested and cannot be guaranteed. This watch is considered suitable for normal day-to-day use, but as a precautionary measure I would not recommend it for use in sports activities, swimming etc.

This is a private sale and no warranties or guarantees are made beyond the described condition and the normal eBay terms and conditions.

If you have any questions, please just ask!

Shipping and packing

UK postage is by fully insured Royal Mail Special Delivery, guaranteed delivery by 1.00pm next working day, hence the cost.

Shipping to North America, Oceania and Europe by Global Shipping Programme (GSP).

This means that you pay me the quoted UK domestic shipping cost and you pay eBay the international shipping plus any customs fees and duty. I send the item to the UK GSP Depot by the quoted 'express shipping' and from there GSP is responsible for the international shipping and delivery to the buyer. Tracking information is provided by eBay and you can also check tracking data by looking at the item in your 'Purchase history'. Please note that I have no control over the GSP international shipping costs, only the UK domestic shipping.

Buyers from North America and Oceania please be aware that due to GSP restrictions you may find that you are unable to complete the purchase. If this applies please contact me to request shipping cost and I will quote shipping. If you wish to go ahead I will amend the listing to enable you to make the purchase. Be aware also that shipping is expensive due to the insurance, and I will only ship fully insured. Buyer pays any imports duties and customs fees.

Thanks very much for looking!

UK eBay seller oldfella_50 listed another 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 this afternoon, with a Buy-it-Now price of £1100, or the option to make an offer. As with his 'last' previous eBay listing, the primary image is nicely composed, a less than subtle hint of RAF service. From memory this is the 5th time he's listed one (at least from what I could find posted earlier in this thread), which more points to him being a dealer.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183645093745

I'm not sure why that one took so long to sell, but checking my eBay watching page, I noticed this 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 listed by UK eBay seller oldfella_50, back in January, had finally sold this morning, for a slightly reduced Buy-It-Now price of £1000. Actually, if you check the eBay Purchase History, the fact that he'd declined every offer he received probably explains why. Obviously holding out for £1000.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183645093745

With apologies for the double quote - it's just to provide the recent back history.

The photos may be slightly different, but this is the same 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1, listed by UK eBay seller oldfella_50 which supposedly eventually sold last month. He re-listed late this afternoon, evidently due to a non-paying buyer.

With apologies for the triple quote - it's just to provide the last 6 months back history ! Checking my eBay watching page, I noticed that UK eBay seller oldfella_50 had ended his latest re-listing for that 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1, this morning, as item allegedly no longer available. Let's hope it stays that way.

This 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 'Head Only' was listed yesterday evening, by a UK eBay seller, as a 7-day auction, with an opening bid price of £500, or the option to Buy-it-Now for £700.

SEIKO PILOT WATCH 7A28

Comes without box, strap or instructions

This watch was purchased over 10 years ago at an antique fair, purely because I liked the watch.

SEIKO Generation 1 - Pilot Watch

Genuine Issue Military Watch

Issue number 7498 of 11,307

This Generation 1. military helicopter pilot watch was issued by the RAF from October 1984 until November 1990 and therefore this is one of the last of the earlier ones issued.

It is dated 1988 on the case-back and therefore would have seen action in the First Gulf War code-named “Operation Desert Storm”

This watch would have seen action in the First Gulf War and therefore, inevitably has some small historical marks.

Earlier this morning, UK eBay seller grebert09 once again re-listed his less than stellar 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1, this time with the Buy-it-Now price reduced to £695.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173914238300

It sold a couple of hours later:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/173914238300

I'm obviously spending too much time looking at 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1's, when I start remembering photos. :/

Yesterday evening a UK eBay seller listed a familiar-looking 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1, (recognizable from its manky hands lume) as a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of £750. This is most definitely a case of Déjà Vu. The re-seller wingra20 has not only been lazy / stupid enough to re-use the previous seller's photos, in the same order, but he's also copied his description verbatim.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372687248160

With apologies for the double quote from the previous page ....

The UK eBay re-seller of the above less than ideal condition 7A28-7120 had since re-listed it a few times, most recently reducing the opening bid price to £650. Checking my eBay watching page, it sold yesterday evening for that price.

Earlier yesterday evening, another UK eBay seller had listed yet another 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1, with a 'pie-in-the sky' Buy-it-Now price of £1500 (or the option to make a lower more sensible offer). Granted it may be a tidier example than most, but .... Seriously £1500 ??

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163728601954

As with virtually all the 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1's that I add to my eBay watching page (purely for the purpose of keeping this thread updated with results), I hadn't been watching that one closely (or if I'm completely honest - not at all). Over the last 6 weeks, the UK eBay seller had revised his listing a number of times, reducing his ridiculous 'pie-in-the-sky' Buy-it-Now price from the original £1500 to 'only' £850.

Checking my eBay watching page, I see it sold yesterday evening, not for the £850 Buy-it-Now price, but for a best offer - presumably less than that figure.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163728601954

The eBay Purchase History shows there were only a few offers made:

Unfortunately that annoying eBay API feed 'glitch' means WatchCount.com look-up tools still can't provide any clue as to what price it may actually have been sold for.

Belated Update (25th August):

Nearly a month later, using the latest eBay 'BO workaround', I'm able to reveal that 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 sold for a best offer of £825 - not a lot less than the much reduced (originally £1500) Buy-it-Now price. As shown by this alternative eBay link:

Being rather more realistically priced, it would have been interesting to see how this one panned out. Unfortunately, two days ago, the UK eBay seller ended the listing as item no longer available. That could be interpreted two ways: either they thought they'd possibly under-priced it and have withdrawn it - or more likely, as I suspect, they've succumbed to a 'back door' offer outside eBay. :/

This 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 was listed this afternoon as a 10-day auction, with an opening bid price of £0.99, but with a reserve price set. I've always thought this a bit of pointless exercise, especially when this seller also has the option of a ludicrous 'pie-in-the-sky' Buy-it-Now price of £1500. Still, at least it's getting lots of views.

At lunchtime today, UK eBay seller forpik listed another 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 Head Only, with a 'pie-in-the-sky' Buy-it-Now price of £1350 and no option to make an offer. As is also now customary with his listings, the lurid green second part of his description is replete with the usual foreign-sounding spelling mistakes.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233230433641

Well, if nothing else (particulary his apparently poor command of English), UK eBay seller forpik is to be commended for his sheer brass and dogged persistence. Checking my eBay watching page, I see that his grossly over-priced 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 Head Only, which he listed on May 17th, finally sold yesterday evening for his £1350 Buy-it-Now price.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233230433641

As confirmed by the eBay Purchase History:

.... and this WatchCount.com Completed Items search result:

Apart from the listing having received 2850 views over the almost 3 month period, it had also accumulated some 87 presumably bemused watchers. As I've said many many times before: All it ever takes is one.

The outcome of that one was fairly predictable.  Given the UK eBay seller's ludicrous 'pie-in-the-sky' Buy-it-Now price of £1500, I suspected his reserve price would be set accordingly. It did manage to garner 1100+ views and attract some 107 bemused watchers over the 10-day listing period, but when the auction ended a few moments ago, the bidding had 'only' reached £780 after 22 bids - and no great surprise, the reserve price was not met. :(

That unsold auction result must have given the UK eBay seller a reality check.

Half an hour after it ended, he re-listed it as a rather more realistic Buy-it-Now for £750 (half his previous ludicrous figure of £1500), with the option to make an offer.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283578395302

After a mere 19 views and with only one watcher, it sold - about 20 minutes ago.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283578395302

The eBay Purchase History doesn't show any offers being made (nor a Buy-it-Now):

The WatchCount.com Completed Items search result doesn't conclusively confirm that it actually sold as a Buy-it-Now for £750 either, but reading between the lines - and for want of any evidence to the contrary, I'd suspect that to be the case. ;)

Belated Update: This alternative eBay link indeed now confirms that figure of £750:

Another 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 was listed late last night by a UK eBay seller, with a Buy-it-Now price of £950 and currently no option to make an offer.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264371493533

The day he listed it, the UK eBay seller made a few minor revisions to his listing. This morning he eventually got around to making the one that really mattered - he added a 'Best Offer' option.

Some 3100 views later, and with 57 watchers, it finally sold against a best offer, earlier this evening.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264371493533

The eBay Purchase History shows that was, in fact, the only offer received:

Unfortunately that annoying eBay API feed 'glitch' means WatchCount.com look-up tools still can't provide any clue as to what price it may actually have been sold for.

Belated Update (25th August):

A week later, using the latest eBay 'BO workaround', I'm now pleased to be able to report that 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 sold for a best offer of £850. As revealed by this alternative eBay link:

Here's a 'blast from the past', with a mildly amusing possible outcome. I can't say I'd even thought to check before this morning, but the UK eBay seller did make a couple of revisions to his listing in early April. He added a 'Make Best Offer' option, but then removed it less than 24 hours later !

Nearly 6 months later, after some 2135 views, with 59 watchers, it finally appears to have sold yesterday evening, for the £995 Buy-it-Now price.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/113694645108

But the eBay Purchase History shows it was bought by a Zero-feedback buyer !

It'll be interesting to see whether the newbie buyer actually pays up - or if the seller subsequently re-lists it in due course. :/

It sold earlier this morning, against a Best Offer, as shown by the Bid History:

At lunchtime today, UK eBay seller foxrecce listed another 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1, with a Buy-it-Now price of £950, or the option to make an offer. Although the listing looks very similar to his previous one, which finally ended on August 17th (see my post higher up this page) and this watch is also 1988 issue, with a badly scratched crystal, it has a different issue / serial number and the 4th photo shows a later dated Seiko UK invoice for a movement service.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264455617070

1988 British Military Issue Pilot Chronograph Watch Gen 1 Seiko 7A28-7120. NATO Stock Number (NSN): 6645-99-7683056. Issued to British military fast jet and helicopter pilots in the 1980s. Made in Japan by Seiko to British Military specifications. Non-reflective brushed stainless steel water resistant case and matt black dial with white and luminous hands and markers. In fully serviceable condition keeping accurate time with all functions operating correctly. The vintage chronograph movement has just been fully checked and serviced by Seiko UK in June 2019 at a cost of £171.00 - service paperwork included with the watch. Comes complete with original 1980s issue Admiralty Grey Nylon NATO strap in excellent, nearly new condition. The Seiko 7A28 was the first analog quartz movement ever produced: an extremely accurate 15 jewel movement made from precision engineered metal components and gears. Chronograph functions include luminous stopwatch second hand, 1/10 second indicator, split timings function and rolling 30 minute stopwatch indicator. Hacking time function with luminous hour and minute hands and seconds indicator. Low battery life indicator. The beautifully engineered movement is built to last and can be fully stripped down for cleaning and repair. Seiko UK Service Centre still provides service and repair for the 7A28, as do many independent watch repair specialists. The Promithium 147 luminous hands and markers are still usable for night reading. The stainless steel case has a none reflective brushed finish and fixed strap bars. This 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1 was listed by a UK eBay seller yesterday afternoon, with a typically over-optimistic Buy-it-Now price of £895, or the option to make an offer. Before any short-sighted prospective buyer makes a rash decision, I strongly recommend that they study the photos closely.

Seiko RAF pilot Generation 1 Watch

Year 1989

1st Generation

All Original

Excellent Condition

On sale is a Genuine RAF /British Military issued Pilot Seiko Chronograph generation 1 watch. Nato stock number 6645-99-7683056. One of the most sought among military watch collectors.

An ideal addition to the collection or an investment opportunity as the prices of these watches are always going up.

Dial: Original Promithium Luminous Military Dial with Three Sub-Dials

The case excluding the crown measures 37mm across and has an inter-lug width of 20mm. Fixed lugs.

Some age related wear/hairs lines all around. All functions seems to be working and watch is keeping good time but would benefit service considering the age. I'm trying to be honest and mention every little detail, please expand the photos in maximum view to see the full condition.

Come with a new nylon militaty strap which compliments the vintage looks of the watch.

Item will delivered using recorded and insured service for safe delivery. I can also post to other countries however, the Custom duties/taxes will be buyer's responsibility.

I have attempted to describe the item as best I can. However, if in any way you are unsatisfied with either the item or my service, please contact me on receipt of the item and I will do everything in my power to rectify the matter.

Please see my other watches on sale and let me know if you have any questions.

Happy Bidding!!

This watch appears to be suffering from an errant upper dial plate. It has somehow become detatched from the lower dial plate, on which the sub-dials are printed. So the sub-dials appear off-centre (to varying degrees) in the seller's photos. Yet oddly the minute chapter ring (which should help locate it) appears to be holding station.

I read through the seller's description and had a hearty chortle to myself, when I got to the sentence: I'm trying to be honest and mention every little detail ....

Followed later by: I have attempted to describe the item as best I can.

Yeah, right !
