Today I'm wearing my 7A38-701A. Shame about the polished case and faded orange hands....but I still like it :)

Never make apologies for your 7Axx Arpad.  At least you're regularly posting WRUW shots.

I've been wearing an old favourite this afternoon. My self-built franken 7A38-7070 fitted with the all-black 709L dial from a 7A38-7080:

On this nice sunny Monday I'm wearing my 7A38-7020 stainless steel on my right wrist. (As I have injured my left wrist yesterday during messing around with my car :( )

All right, it's military time!

Does anyone like the 7A28-7120 RAF Gen 1?

I just realised that I'm wearing a green shirt so I thought that the RAF Gen 1 would be a suitable "partner" for today :D

Hey, what's with using your own imported smiley's Arpad ? :o Just like I do in fact. :D Shame they're military themed.

Seriously - I don't mind at all. ;) Just keep up the good work.

Here's my wrist shot for today - another old favourite of mine. My 'Dinky Diver' 7A38-6000 on a vintage Seiko 'Beads of Rice' bracelet:

Indeed, Simon. http://www.seiko7a38.com/apps/forums/topics/show/8689138-happy-birthday-wishes-thread-

Looks like your taste in (other brands of) Seiko 7A38's has finally 'come of age' too. :P Welcome to La Vie en Bleu club !

Funnily enough, guess what I'm wearing this afternoon ? My original Yema Spationaute III 'bitza' with the 'mission flags' dial.

Four hours to the start of 'The Great American Race' (The Daytona 500) later this afternoon.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nascar/2013/02/24/daytona-500-2013-start-time-lineup-tv-radio-info/1942515/

.... and I was wondering whether to wear bright green (7A38-7040) or dayglo orange (7A38-704A).

As the SUN on my 7A38-7040 looks a little orangey, I thought I'd go with that one. :)

Go Daddy Dani !!

But gorgeous fast lady as she is, somehow I have a feeling it's going to bewho wins the day and takes the chequered flag.

I'm a little bit late posting today's WRUW shot. My camera's battery seems to be on the way out. :( It's given sterling service over the last three years, but lately I seem to be getting fewer and fewer shots between re-charges. It started giving me the low battery warning beep as soon as I switched it on and by the time I got back to my PC, there wasn't even enough power left in the battery to transfer the images via USB. So I had to charge it up for a couple of hours before I could upload the best of them. Enough of the excuses. :P

My Yema N8 Flygraf (which going by the condition of the one sold by Timely_Classic recently, has got to be worth at least £500+ !!) :D

It may look like I am still wearing my 7A38-7020, but in fact it is my number two 7A38-7020. Number three, my sample case, that I paid a ridiculous amount for (Yes Paul, I have come to my senses) is still waiting to be assembled to a complete watch by fellow member Jurgen. I have found a complete set of ....(Can't remember the word. Not in Dutch, not in English. Well, you know: little rubber rings to keep out moist and water) and now I can send it off to him, together with a donor 7A38 for the movement.

I think my Iphone makes better pictures than my cr*ppy camera. What do you think? (You can even see the dirt in the bracelet! Sorry about that)

Prompted by the recent nefarious activities of would-be opportunist eBay seller 'martinachertok' ....

I thought I'd dig out my 7A38-7000 and give it a little wrist time. To use the vernacular, this one (mine, as opposed to hers) is stunning:

Not bad, Harry. ;) But how about this one ? :P

A self-built franken combination of your last two wrist shots: the 700L dial and hands from a 7A38-7000 beater in a 7A38-7020/9 case.

Thanks for the compliments, Con and Harry. ;)

That particular 7A38 Franken was something of a 'happy accident'. I did write up about it in a thread on RLT in August 2010, entitled:

A Few Of My Own 7A38 'Frankens' - Shock, Horror !

See post # 17 through #24 (on page 2): http://www.thewatchforum.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=57525&view=findpost&p=586306

I had actually seen something very much like it, which probably 'sowed the seed' in the back of my mind, on eBay back in May 2010:

When I first built mine, it still had the correct (for a 7A38-7029) Seiko p/n B1171S bracelet fitted:

But I subsequently removed that decent bracelet to use on another 7A38-7029, which I was also re-building around the same time.

To part answer your question, Con - the bracelet now fitted is a Seiko p/n Z1020S. I bought a couple N.O.S. from an eBay seller in Thailand - Salestuff-100. I was looking for something a 'little different', to make this watch into a 'proper' franken (by my definition

- a later quote from that thread: But this is a 'Franken', and to be a 'pukka' Franken, it's really got to be fitted with the 'wrong' bracelet.

they should really be fitted with a 'wrong' bracelet) and this one fitted the bill nicely. Not just the 10mm lug fitting / 23mm width at the shoulder, but the 'dummy rivet' motif matches the bezel. The links are slightly thinner than those of a B1171S, but still a good weight.

See: http://www.thewatchforum.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=57525&st=45&p=678988&#entry678988 later in that same RLT thread.

That photo I posted yesterday was a pretty good one. I have posted photos of this watch before in this thread, back in June last year.

Seeing as the day / date shown on one of them is good for (later) today, here's a re-post. :P

The dial and hands don't bear too close an examination. :( They came out of an ex-eBay $40 7A38-7000 'basket case resto' project'.

An attractive combination it may be, but had it not been for that 'fortunate accident', I wouldn't have broken a decent one to build this.

As this seems to have turned into a Franken First Friday, here's the previous one's more subtle brotherwhich I prefer.

Pretty much along similar lines, fitted with the same p/n Z1020S bracelet, but the 709L dial from a 7A38-7070 and a few other tweaks.
