For those of us who do care about these things. I didn't pick this one up in my eBay searches last night, because of the way the seller has rolled the Cal. / Case number together. Fortunately, my 'wild card' saved favourite search did pick it up, and it came up among the eBay notifications I received this morning. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110850571572 SEIKO Chronograph 7A387290 vintage rare
QUALITY WATCH. KEEPS FANTASTIC TIME. I HAVE HAD THIS WATCH YEARS AND IT STARTED MY LOVE OF WATCHES AND MY COLLECTION. I HAVE TO REDUCE MY WATCH COLLECTION. THIS IS THE ONLY REASON FOR SELLING. COMES WITH NEW BATTERY FITTED. GOOD LUCK The 7A38-7290 is indeed quite rare, but what the seller conveniently omits to mention, is that it's fitted with a non-original bracelet. Not quite sure what it's originally off, but I'd suspect some 80's Seiko Ana-Digi, or other. Note it has flat links, with what appear to be short gold-plated bars, similar to the bracelet fitted to that 7A38-7080 / -7180 Franken which was listed on eBay Italy in February. Here's what the correct original p/n B1615F bracelet on a 7A38-7290 looks like. In effect, the watch is a black chromed 7A38-7270:
I see the seller has received two offers against his £120 Buy-it-Now price already .... Caveat Emptor, as always, Gentlemen.

That one on the bay doesn't look very black! I had wondered what the difference was between it and yer standard 7270

I see the seller has received two offers against his £120 Buy-it-Now price already .... In total, the seller received 5 offers during the course of the listing (including 2 low-ball offers from members of this forum). He rejected 4 of them, the highest of which was £90, and then allowed his best / highest / last offer of £105 to expire: http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&_trksid=p4340.l2564&rt=nc&item=110850571572

I couldn't mention it then, because I knew that Manuel was interested, but at the same time there was a 7A38-7290 on eBay Italy. Not listed as an auction, but in the Annunci classified section: Unfortunately this part of eBay doesn't appear to show / retain history, once the seller cancels the advert. So here's the photos:
As you can see, from the photos, it looked quite a tidy example, with minimal wear to the black chrome coating. The asking price was a sensible 120 Euros. So someone possibly grabbed themselves a comparative bargain.

Indeed it is, James - daddyisback Not quite sure what it's originally off, but I'd suspect some 80's Seiko Ana-Digi, or other. By the way, I think I may have sussed what the bracelet is off - possibly a H601-5260. See: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150791614656

Here's another example from UK eBay seller 'Boring_Sandwich', whose listings give a misleading impression of uninformed naivety: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180863180338 VINTAGE SEIKO 7A38-7000 FOUND WITH BOX OF MILITARY RAF WATCHES GEN 1
MAKER........SEIKO....... MODEL 7A38-7000 FOUND WITH A GROUP OF RAF GEN MILITARY SEIKO WATCHES...SEE OTHER REGULAR LISTINGS BACK WAS LOOSE AND A NEW SEALED BATTERY WAS TAPED ON BACK...ALTHOUGH UNUSED BATTERY WAS OLD..AS THESE WATCHES HAVE LAIN AROUND FOR YEARS..ON FITTINGS HANDS ALL MOVE BUT UNSURE IF GOING AS THEY SHOULD AS SOME SEEM TO MOVE VERY FAST AT TIMES. MAY NEED CHECKING AND SERVICE..BEST IF SOMEONE WHO KNOWS ABOUT THESE ELECTRONIC MOVEMENTS BUYS ITS, AS MANY WATCHMAKERS WONT HAVE A CLUE TO HOW IT WORKS OR SHOULD WORK No mention that it's fitted with a non-original bracelet - although it may well be a Seiko band, I can't quite accurately identify which one. Here's what the correct original Seiko p/n B1170S bracelet on a 7A38-7000 should look like (apologies for re-posted 'library' image):
I also suspect that the dial's batons may have been re-painted. Look how white they are, compared to the lume 'pips' at 3, 6 and 9:

Techically not a Seiko 7Axx, but a close relative - a Junghans High Tech 24/4610 on an undisclosed 'pertinent' replacement bracelet. See this parallel thread which I've started in the Non-Seiko 7Axx Discussion area - but only if you're in the slightest bit bothered.

Despite the auction receiving some 963* views over the course of the 7 day listing, 'Boring_Sandwich's 7A38-7000 didn't sell. That might have something to do with his own greed, having increased the opening bid price from £99.99 to £129.99 after the first day: Perhaps he'd fare better, next time, if he did a little bit of research and attempted to describe the watch properly, instead of his usual naive manner, which I still suspect may be deliberate - and recourse to 'RAF Gen 1 7A28' keyword spamming. Military it ain't ! *Reference the recent exchange between John and myself in another thread: I can't understand whose attention they are trying to attract. Why would 7A28 GEN 1 collectors be interested in these particular dials? That's the whole point, John. They wouldn't normally come up in their search results, were it not for his misleading auction titles. Which is exactly how that civilian 7A38-7000, with re-painted lume batons and non-original bracelet bracelet managed 963 views. Belated edit: 'Boring Sandwich's misleadingly described 7A38-7000 finally sold for the opening bid price of £119.99 on 19th May:

Bit of a naughty one, this - which may catch out the unsuspecting punter, as it looks OK at first glance: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200762046463 VINTAGE MEN'S SEIKO GOLD PLATED CHRONOGRAPH W/ GOLD DIAL-7A38 MOVEMENT
YOU'RE BIDDING ON A VINTAGE MEN'S SEIKO GOLD PLATED CHRONOGRAPH WITH A GOLD DIAL. CASE MEASURES 37.2mm WIDE. WATCH IS IN GOOD PREOWNED CONDITION WITH SIGHT WEAR TO PLATED BRACELET. EXCELLENT DIAL, BUT CRYSTAL HAS SOME SCRATCHES. 7A38 MOVEMENT IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. But look again ....
Looks OK-ish from underneath (if you didn't know it was mostly the wrong bracelet) ....
All that's left of the original Seiko B1627G bracelet are the first 2 joining links, onto which this other aftermarket one has been botched.

Lately I seem to have seen more stainless 7A38-7190's on eBay on incorrect replacement bracelets and leather straps than on their original B1405S bracelets. But I ought to give this one a quick mention, simply for the way the German eBay seller has described it .... http://www.ebay.de/itm/251068274906 SEIKO Chronograph Stahl Herren -Quartz Uhr

It really is too damned warm to be slaving over a hot keyboard, and an over-clocked PC that's about to go into meltdown. So I'll be brief. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320913782141 Seiko 7A38-7010 Vintage black dial Quartz Chronograph watch

International Ebayers are wellcome New Chrystal Bracelet with all the links All fonctions work Days in French and English What the French eBay seller omits to state is that the (apparently shagged) bracelet fitted is not the original Seiko p/n Z1118S. And as for the replacement crystal and crystal gasket he's fitted, he's obviously not read our forum's thread on the subject. If you're in any doubt as to how a 7A38-7010 should look, fitted with original bracelet and crystal / gasket, here's a couple of mine:

On the face of it, what might, at first glance, appear to be a gold-tone 7A38-7190 in nice original condition: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200766979748
Seiko Chronograph 7A38 Vintage Traum Zustand ** Klassiker **
Seiko Chronograph 7A38 - 7190 Base Metal Steel Back Water Resistant Japan Version
Die Uhr befindet sich in einem Top Zustand. Keine Abnutzungen am Gehäuse oder Glas.
Ein absoluter Design Klassiker. Mit neuer Batterie. But in the seller's 4th photo, the bracelet fitted appears to be of the vintage aftermarket 'expander' type - possibly stamped Speidel.
Edit: The seller is also offering this 7A38-7190 for sale on UhrForum.de: http://uhrforum.de/seiko-chronograph-7a38-vintage-t106440 Three photos are from the eBay listing, but larger in higher resolution. Zooming in, I can confirm the bracelet is stamped 'Speidel USA'.

Spotted this rare 7A38-705A on Yahoo Japan auctions this morning: http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k149206754 SEIKO SPORTS 100 7A38-705A ジウジアーロ世代 7A28 80年代
The sellers description (translated by Google) merely states:
Seiko chronograph is rare. Will be a rare model was released the same time as the original Giugiaro speedmaster. Personally I think 's rare than Giugiaro. Tested with the successor model of movement 7A38 7A28, a day date. The bezel rotates smoothly. Is used, what is not reasonable condition with no scratches on the glass? At the time of production is a thing in 1984. We will wait for the tender of the person who used your understanding .... No mention of the fact that it's been fitted with a replacement bracelet. Here's what the correct original Seiko p/n Z1148S bracelet looks like on a 7A38-705A - as seen on Yahoo Japan in November 2010:
Belated Footnote: that 7A38-705A fitted with the wrong bracelet sold for 25,500 Yen after only 2 bids, a week later on 22nd June 2012.

I had noticed this 7A28-701A earlier, when it was first listed 7 days ago, just hadn't remembered to flag it in this thread before: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330748051873 VINTAGE SEIKO CHRONOGRAPH 7A28 701A. MILITARY LOOKING WATCH WORKS GREAT Subtitled: YOU WON'T FIND BETTER. (Ahem - not too difficult, actually).
Gents vintage Seiko chronograph.
This is a very nice vintage 7a28 701a Seiko in good working condition. All functions are working as they should. The watch comes with its original bracelet which is 15.1cm long.
Condition is very good with a few scratches to the glass and wear marks here and there.
This is a military looking watch with its black matt dial and white hand.
Also comes with a NATO strap. Not only is the bracelet a bit short for most people .... but it looks (to me) more like the bracelet off a 7A28-7010 (p/n YA16A), rather than the correct p/n YA17A for the 7A28-701A:
Either way, whichever of them it was, it should be fitted with a Speedmaster clasp, not the standard 7-hole 'long' SQ clasp:
There's still 12 hours of the auction to run, but with the number of bids (6) that the current high bidder t***m (93) has stacked up: http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&_trksid=p4340.l2565&rt=nc&item=330748051873 I'd say let him have it - he deserves it. Edit: The internals aren't exactly pristine either:

Yet another soft-focussed offering (maybe it's got something to do with the Fog) from SF-based eBay re-seller worldwideweb66: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130719536999 Vintage SEIKO 7A28-7049 SPORTS 100 Chronograph Watch! VGood!
This auction is for a vintage SEIKO QUARTZ 7A28-7049 SPORTS 100 Series Chronograph Watch in very good cosmetic and working perfect condition. Produced and released in 1983. Case and Band are solid stainless steel. All functions are working properly. Chronograph hands can reset to zero/12O'Clock position! Crystal is very clean. Movement is very excellent condition. There is some scratches and dents on the case from normal used! Please check the all photos. Of course what Wai Phyo conveniently omits to mention in his description, is that the bracelet is a totally incorrect replacement, possibly off a 1980's LCD digital. In fact, I know exactly what it came off, and I'll write about that in another thread in the Private Member's section. Then there's the ridiculous asking price of $385 (approx. £247.45). No doubt some poor schmuck will fall for it. In case anybody is unsure, here's what the correct Seiko p/n B1075S bracelet on a 7A28-7040/-7049 looks like:

As already mentioned in another thread in this forum section (due to it's highly opportunistic asking price) .... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320942490130 SEIKO 7A38 Chronograph ***NEAR MINT ***COLLECTOR ITEM
For Sale - SEIKO 7 A 38 Chronograph *** NEAR MINT CONDITIONS ***COLLECTOR ITEM *** Case - 38mm w/o crown X 42mm lug to lug ,Stainless steel ,some scuffs,Clean Cond. Dial - very nice, mint cond.day / date at 3" raised silver markers, Movement - quartz 15 jewels, woks strong ,and keeps Perfect time.- AS NEW, New battery installed.about 6-7 month ago. Back case - nice and clean,a hair line scratch, see pics. Band - stainless steel, signed "SEIKO" - as new. (Probably because IT IS NEW old stock) This watch was NOT TESTED FOR WATER RESISTANCE . Thanks for watching. NOTE - as a vintage-old watch ,may need some service, oil, cleaning, adjustments at some point, for better accuracy or time keeping. Apart from having been poorly re-finished, in a (failed) attempt to hide the obvious dings in the bezel .... I could have started a new topic for this, but seeing as it's a misrepresentation of a '7A38' bracelet, I thought I might add it on here. This one nearly had me tempted, too - for a couple of minutes, at least. Listed earlier today on eBay in the UK by 'lesterplant': http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180939666866 Seiko 7a38 6020 vintage bracelet strap complete with clasp **Rare**
(the second photo is from his other eBay listing for a well-polished looking B1241S - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180939661720 Here is a very rare genuine vintage Seiko 7a38 6020 stainless steel PVD coated bracelet complete with Seiko clasp. It is coffee brown in colour. It is used and does have marks and wear from sitting in draw for the past 15 years so please don't expect brand new. The stamped ref# is Z1208. Extremely rare. UK P&P £5 1st class recorded. Just one 'small' problem .... The Seiko p/n for the bracelet for the brown / black chrome coated 7A38-6020 is Z1207H - not Z1208. That bracelet he's trying to flog as a 7A38-6020, is actually off a 8123-6280, like this:
It may look a lot like it's bigger browner brother (apart from the missing pushers and subdials) .... and the Z1208H bracelet may fit the 7A38-6020, in place of the correct Z1207H, but I'm not about to spend 60 Quid to find out ! Actually, there are 2 'small' problems. There also appears to be a dire shortage of adjustment links. I can only count 8 links on one side and 7 on the other, total 15 .... So by my reckoning, when attached to the relevant watch head, you'd be lucky if it would fit anything much bigger than a 6½" wrist ! Belated edit: I noticed a couple of days later, that the seller had amended his listing: Seiko 8123 6280 vintage bracelet strap complete with clasp. Here is a very rare genuine vintage stainless steel PVD coated bracelet complete with Seiko clasp. Apparently it is for a Seiko 8123 6280 - from Google it looked like one for a Seiko 7a38 6020 (looks darn like it ).... Must have read about his mistake somewhere.
